Joey Severns joined the F&M coaching staff in the fall of 2015.

Prior to his arrival in Lancaster, Severns spent two years as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. His responsibilities included practice planning and gameday strategies, particularly regarding the defense.

While at St. Mary’s, Severns helped guide the Seahawks to a pair of appearances in the Capitol Athletic Conference Playoffs, coached one all-conference player, and placed 23 team members on the All-CAC Academic Team in 2015.

Before his stint at St. Mary’s, he spent two years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Albright College where Severns helped begin the men’s lacrosse program, building a roster of 30 within the first year and taking charge of the defense.

Severns helped the Lions’ program get off to a fast start, posting a 31-7 record over the 2012 and 2013 seasons, and finishing second in the MAC Commonwealth Conference during the inaugural 2012 season. Under Severn’s leadership, the 2012 Lions held opponents to 6.78 goals per game, the lowest in the conference.

A 2010 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Severns played varsity lacrosse for the Tigers, and was a member of the 2010 squad that set a school record for wins in a season and obtained a top-20 national ranking.

Upon graduation, Severns became an assistant coach at Oberlin College, helping the Yeoman to a 7-9 mark during the 2011 season.
